Bajaj V (Valor), Bajaj Auto's next major brand that has been in the offing for quite some time now was finally unveiled on February 1, 2016. Recently, the Indian auto giant launched a teaser video on the 67th Republic Day giving us the glimpse of the all new 150cc motorcycle that will be called the 'V' (Valor). Bajaj V15 is the new premium commuter which looks like a scrambler inspired design, will completely change the way the motorcycle industry works. What makes this brand special is that it is built with the metal sourced from the Indian Navy's decommissioned INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier and thus, the premium commuter carries a special badge that reads "Made with the invincible metal of the INS Vikrant", which is enough to invoke the valour and lineage that the warship stands for.
The teaser video launched on the 67th Republic Day takes back in time and tells us how the battle of 1971 between India and Pakistan took place and how one thing changed the course of the war completely. The INS Vikrant was the battleship which covered the soldiers on foot in mountains by air strikes and gunfire. Bajaj says when the INS Vikrant retired in the year 2014, the ship was sent to the scrap yard and from there they have picked up the metal to make their motorcycle. Watch the full video below.
From the looks, it can be seen that the new Bajaj V15 sports a retro classic styling. The relaxed position of the handlebar (with bar end weights) along with a single seat give it a cafe racer feel. It also features a round headlamp with a bikini fairing, alloy wheels, rear cowl, an upswept exhaust, a single piece tail lamp unit, and a neatly sculpted fuel tank. The motorcycle also gets a front disc brake. Importantly, it gets a ‘made with the invincible metal of INS Vikrant’ decal. To be positioned between the Pulsar and Discover 150 models, the new V15 is the highly speculated motorcycle that was spotted testing late last year. Watch the full official unveil video below!
The engine is said to ba a 144.8cc oil cooled, single cylinder, 4-stroke, DTSi engine unit which when coupled with a 5-speed transmission box, churns out a maximum power of 12 BHP @ 7500 rpm and a peak torque of 12.75 NM @ 5500 rpm. The premium commuter also gets telescopic front suspension and twin shock rear suspension. The instrument cluster is expected to be an all-analog with a speedometer, tachometer, trip-meter, odometer and a fuel gauge. The brake set-up is 240mm disc brakes at front and 130mm drum brake at rear. Bajaj V has beeb positioned above the Discover brand and below the Pulsar brand. V-150 is expected to be priced around INR 60,000 for the base model.
