TVS has just launched the Apache RTR 200 4V and the TVS Victor at an event in Chennai today. The new Apache RTR was launched simultaneously in India and Indonesia. The Apache RTR 200 4V is priced at INR 88,990 for the carburetor, non-ABS model (ex-Showroom, New Delhi) while the ABS model is expected to cost INR 1.07-1.08 lakhs (ex-Showroom, New Delhi). The bookings of the company’s new flagship offering have started unofficially at a token amount of Rs 10,000. Bookings will officially commence in the first week of April while there is no word yet on when the deliveries of the bike would begin. The launch of the Apache RTR 200 4V took place earlier than expected because the company reportedly wants to pay full attention to the launch of BMW G 310 R jointly developed by TVS and BMW. Hence, the early launch of Apache RTR 200 4V was expected to give TVS the much-needed break to focus on its joint venture project.

Talking about the exterior, the Apache RTR 200 4V measures 2,050 mm in length, 790 mm in width, 1,105 mm in height, 1,353 mm in wheelbase, 800 mm in saddle height and 180 mm in ground clearance. The naked sportsbike rides on a double cradle split synchro stiff frame. The fuel tank capacity is good for 12 liters. The design is inspired from the Draken X21 concept that TVS showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. It feature a razor sharp design with chiseled edges and split 10-spoke 17-inch alloys at both ends. The new Apache employs telescopic front forks while rear gets mono shock suspension. All-digital instrument cluster, LED tail lamps and split seats are the other additions. Recent reports indicated that the Apache RTR 200 4V might also come equipped with Pirelli tyres, which is known for its superb grip in recently-launched Mahindra Mojo, but instead of that the Apache RTR 200 4V is shod with 90/90-17 and 130/70-17 tubeless tyres at the front and rear respectively.

On the mechanical front, the Apache RTR 200 4V is powered by a 197.75 cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve, air-cooled engine with SOHC and an oil cooler engine which is available with a carburetor or an electronic fuel injection coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox. The Apache RTR 200 Carburetor model develops 20.5 PS at 8,500 rpm, whereas the Apache RTR 200 EFI makes 21 PS at 8,500 rpm. Both variants churn 18.1 Nm of torque. Transmission is a 5-speed unit with the clutch being a wet 6-plate unit. The cooling system for the engine is sourced from BMW Motorrad. The carburetor model weighs 148 kg, whereas the EFI comes in at 148.5 kg. The latter has a top speed of 129 km/h and accelerates from 0-60 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The carburetor model, on the other hand, takes 3.95 seconds and has its top speed capped at 127 km/h. 0-100 km/h takes 12 seconds on both models.
Other features included in the Apache 200 are single halogen headlamp, mudguard integrated LED tail lamp, digital instrument console, minimal fairing and a telescopic front fork, offset mono shock on suspension arm, split seat, wide rear tyre and also a mobile charging point. Braking on the TVS Apache RTR 200 V4 is handled by petal discs mooring radial TVS tyres, 270 mm petal disc up front and a 240 mm petal disc at the rear with dual-channel ABS, it also gets Draken X21 inspired muscular fuel tank, alloy wheels design inspired from the Draken concept, and an octagonal exhaust having two outlets. The next generation TVS Apache will compete with the likes of KTM Duke 200, Yamaha R25, Bajaj Pulsar 200NS, Mahindra Mojo, Benelli TNT 25 and the upcoming Hero HX 250R.
